Fluid Thinking In the Quest For Better Fisheries Management
We know more about the world around us than ever before with a single click taking us to even the remotest part of the planet. However, when it comes to the oceans, we know so little about what is happening on the surface, let alone in the depths below.
Introduction
There are over sixty million people currently working on fishing boats around the globe, with another two million employees on other vessels which ply the oceans. But who or what governs these millions of workers? Laws so rigorously adhered to on land seem to disappear at the water's edge, for it is a vast and 'invisible' place beyond the horizon.
ABOUT US
Since its inception in 1986, North Atlantic Seafood LLC has been recognized as one of the leading lights in responsibly harvested seafood products and locally based sustainability development. We have developed solid relationships with our worldwide partners as fresh fish processors, importer/exporter. Our partners follow our lead, sourcing products from responsibly managed fisheries that work to the developing ethical standards of responsible harvesting.
SOUTH EAST Asian Operations
Jerry Knecht embarked on a journey of determined discovery to establish and develop supply partnerships with local companies around South East Asia. The company’s fledgling operation, established on the island of Phuket in Thailand, came to nought when struck by the devastating tsunami on the morning of 26th December 2004.
Transparency
Under the umbrella of North Atlantic Seafood LLC, the Indonesian operation was immediately off to a strong start. Small boat fisheries in Indonesia have by default taken an ecosystem-centric approach to sustainability. This approach was not only acknowledged by North Atlantic Seafood LLC, which established a firm base in Indonesia trading as Bali Seafood International (BSI) but taken further.
New Beginnings
In 2020, Slade Gorton of Boston, M.A. U.S.A., having worked with North Atlantic Inc., realized that the acquisition of North Atlantic Seafood LLC made sound economic sense given their in situ operation in Indonesia.
More importantly, North Atlantic Seafood LLC / PT Bali Seafood had successfully worked with Slade Gorton's sustainability efforts in Asian waters.
Supply Chain
Making A Difference One Village At A Time, One Fisher At A Time, One Fish At A Time.
North Atlantic Seafood LLC offers its customers access to seafood from Indonesia's eastern archipelago and other South East Asian Countries, sourcing its product from one of the world's most bio-diverse marine ecosystems.
Sustainability
At North Atlantic Seafood LLC, we don't simply pay lip service to sustainability’. Instead, we are actively working with international government organizations, suppliers, producers, fleet owners and and most importantly fisher communities continually moving toward the goal of a sustainable fishing industry.
